The Town of Banff is famous for its spectacular setting, but it is more than just a pretty place.  As Canada’s first incorporated municipality in a national park, Banff is a very special community:

An Environmentally-Concious Community

Through a host of programs and special projects, the town actively strives to foster visitor and resident appreciation and respect for nature and to meet its responsibilities as a national park community

A Balanced Community

Although the town's official popuulation is 8.721 (7,437 permanent residents and 1,284 non-permanent residents*, the greatest value is placed on the quality of life.  Consequently, Banff has a complement of services, facilities and opportunities rarely found outside the larger centres.

A Community Rich in Character and Culture

Architectural and heritage guidelines ensure the town retains its mountain culture and charm. Banff also has three historic sites, numerous heritage buildings, one of the best performing art schools in the country, top-notch art galleries and a world-renowned museum specializing in the art and history of the Canadian Rockies.

A Friendly and Open Community

Although Banff hosts roughly 4 million visitors every year; it still has the sense of intimacy and relaxation distinctive of small towns.
